Another episode

We took Diesel to the vet Saturday and he checked out fine. He weighs 76.2 lbs and the vet actually doted on him for being in such great shape. He said you can really tell he is well taken care of. My reply, "He's spoiled". Anyway, we told him about Diesel getting choked and he said just to watch him; but he didn't see anything wrong. He did say, Diesel's tonsils were swollen and big but he wasn't going to treat him for it since he wasn't showing any signs of being sick.

Diesel has been fine since last Saturday when we thought he had gotten choked. Well, last night, Shane told me to go check on Diesel because he heard something. Sure enough he was having another episode. It wasn't as bad as last and I didn't panic; but Shane cleared his throat again and he was fine, just disoriented. Shane said he didn't think he had choked on anything but something is definitely wrong now. We kept him inside most of the night. I woke up at 6:15 this morning and Shane wasn't in bed. I looked thru the house and he wasn't anywhere to be found. I went to check on Diesel and Shane was sleeping in Diesel's room with him. awww

Anyway, I thought of something last night and am planning on taking off from work today to take Diesel back to the vet. Last month, we switched Diesel from Pedigree to Iams dog food. I wonder if that is what is causing the episodes?

I'm hoping to find something out this morning at the vet.

I am glad that Diesel is not sick but that is strange that his choking started happening after the food change. You should have grabbed the camera for a Kodak moment of Shane and Diesel ....AWWWWWWW!!!!!! Posted by: cindy at September 10, 2007 12:40 PM
The vet said Diesel was borderline dehydrated and his white blood count was high. He thinks that due to his tonsils being swollen. I can't make him drink or eat, but I can just make sure he has enough water. He got an allergy shot and 2 prescriptions. One of the prescriptions is to help with the seizures, we found out he isn't choking on anything; just having a seizure. The vet said he probably will come out of those on his own(if we aren't home), but you never know. Shane said he did come out of this last one by himself; Shane just made sure he knew we were here.
