Volunteer Painting

Ashley is going into the 6th grade and starting Center for Creative Arts school this Tuesday, the 12th. When your child goes to a magnet school, the parents or guardians have to complete so many volunteer hours. Well, the total to be completed for Ashley is 18 hours.

When I took her to her registration Thursday, they asked for volunteers to help paint their lockers Friday and Saturday. You could come anytime from 9-4 and be able to get 7 volunteer hours. My original plan was to work from 9-3 and get 6 hours. I also signed up for the Cookie Dough delivery day which is another 6 hours. I was trying to help my step-mom since she just had double knee replacement surgery.

I got up this morning and got to the school by 9 and was ready to paint. Let me tell you, I lasted until 12:10...it was sooooooooo hot in that school. Not sure if they aren't allowed to turn the air on until school startes; but I couldn't handle it. I was dripping with sweat.

I got 3 hours and 10 minutes completed and I will definitely do my other 6 hours that I signed up for and then Liz will only have to complete 9 hours.

I think she handle it.....

Note: This is the color we painted the locker; it was called "Sea King".

Chicken Pox

Wednesday, I had Skylar along with Ashley and took the day off and made it a movie day.

Well, when my sister-in-law picked up Skylar, she noticed some bumps on her back and just thought they were heat bumps. The kids had been outside playing. Later on that evening, we found out she had Chicken Pox. I didn't know if Ashley had ever had them; but she was over at her Granny's and evidentially played with Skylar that evening.

Today, when Ashley got out of the shower, she noticed some small red bumps on her body. I looked at them and looked online and sure 'nough, she has the chicken pox too. I had to send her to her Granny's again tonight because Shane has never had the chicken pox and he cannot get them with a month to go before the Wedding.

Ashley has had the chicken pox vaccination so her case will hopefully be mild and won't be so bad....they didn't look that bad.

I had the chicken pox when I was little; but ever since she left, I've been itching like crazy.

I think it's just the thought of them....yuck!!

New Year, New Bed

Ashley has a room at my house and right now, it is all wicker and white. And of course, a very girly room. When Logan comes over, he won't sleep in there and sleeps on my couch.

I'm not a fan of sleeping on couches when there is a bed available. Now, an occasionally nap on the couch is fine; but not to be used as a bed. Anyway, the point I'm making is I'd like to change Ashley's room to be a communal bedroom. I'd love to be able to get Ashley to sleep in there; which she won't either.

We've thought about putting bunk beds in there and making 1 of them girly and 1 of them for a boy. Hopefully, I'll be able to change her room this year. Kids furniture isn't cheap. For example; this bunk bed is really cute and I'd love something bright like this; but $800? Come on, it doesn't even include mattresses. I browsed around on this site and they have some great furniture that is really nice and some of the prices are reasonable. If you are in need of some furniture and live near Wilmington, NC; it would be a great place to shop. I like to actually go in and browse for furniture just to try it out. I've bought online before and you can actually find some good deals here.

Showtime

Ashley loves the camera and she loves to act, sing and dance. Here's a little video I recorded tonight while she was at my house.

Ashley & Lucy

Ashley has always wanted a puppy or small dog. She had a miniature Chihuahua and he broke his leg and then he bit too. They got rid of him. She really hasn't mentioned much about it until we got Diesel.

She finally got a Rat Terrier and she is solid white and very small. Her name is Lucy. Ashley has loved that name ever since Britney Spears played Lucy in the movie Crossroads.

Anyway, Ashley now has a dog and all is well; for now that is. I'll have to take a picture of her and show everyone.

Toothless

Every Tuesday night after mom and I go to Weight Watchers, we always go out to eat as a treat. Sometimes Ashley and Shane will go with us as they did last night.

When we got to the restaurant, Ashley was eating with her hands. I said, "Ashley, don't eat with your hands, we are in public". Then Shane went on a spill about manners, etc., blah, blah, blah.

She said she couldn't cut the meat(broken arm) and was having trouble chewing it because she had a loose tooth. I looked at her tooth and it was just hanging there, bleeding.

She immediately went to the bathroom and pulled it out. When she got back to the table, she said she lost it, literally.

We gave her a hard time that the Tooth Fairy wouldn't be visiting her because there was no tooth to pick up. She said there wasn't a tooth fairy anyway, so that really didn't bother her. I gave her a $1 anyway for the effort.

She's 9 years old and I wonder how many more teeth she has to lose?

Open House

Last night was Ashley's Open House at her school. She goes to a private school and usually before any event, they have a short program with singing.

The 4th and 5th grade choir sang a song about excuses why I don't have my homework. It was really cute.

I've never had any desire to go to a private school and have always thought public schools were just fine to go to and you learned just as well. Ashley has been at Grace Baptist Academy since Kindergarten and she loves it. She even decided she wanted to go to a public school in 3rd grade, so she went to one here in ER. After a week, she was back at Grace. I didn't realize how advanced she was in her learnings.

The teachers and faculity at Grace are really nice and geniunely sincere. The Principle and Head Master always speak to me whenever I'm there and they pass me.

My thoughts of private schools have changed since I was growing up and I hope Ashley will stay in one until she graduates.

We've been thinking of GPS starting in 6th grade.

Ashley and "Her" Cell Phone

About 2 months ago, my stepmother got Ashley a cell phone. Now, Ashley is only 9 years old.

Yes, I liked the idea of her having a phone in case of an emergency; however, the havoc this phone had was not worth the worry.

She used the phone ALL the time, even when she was home. She'd bring it to my house and would use it anytime she needed, well wanted, to call someone. I mean, she's 9 years old, who is she going to call?

Also, it was a camera phone....she was taking pictures left and right and of everything and everybody.

I think "teenagers" should have a phone but not a "tween".

Cell Phone-n-plans has the best cell phone deals. Parents can go on there and enter “Off the Hook,” a free cell phone agreement developed for teens and their parents. Parents and children can come to an agreement and make sure they understand the responsibility (and the costs) that go along with cell
phone ownership.

Cell phones are the one object I think many people can't be without. Yes, I have one; however, as an adult, I don't just use it all the time.

I will say, I do understand why kids love them. I had to have one when I was old enough also. The only difference between then and now, is I had to pay for my own phone and coverage. Now adays, parents just pay for it instead of making the child pay for it.

Children will respect things more if they are having to pay for it out of their own pocket. Think about it.
