"Home"work

I haven't been blogging lately because for the past 3 weekends; I've been out of town. I'm home now and wanted to get in a couple of entries before I begin work.

I'm still working from home and it seems like it is going to be a permanent thing until they want me to come back in the office. I absolutely love working from home!!!!

I'm a workaholic anyway and I enjoy working so working from home is really not that much of a change for me. (except I don't have to get dressed until I'm ready to). Even when I went into the office, I still worked from home at night because I enjoy it.

I usually end up working my 8 hrs during the day and then maybe an hour or two at night if needed. So far my work days have been starting at around 5:45 and ending around 2:15; which is so great!!!!

This week though, I haven't been starting until 8; so I'm a minute late...hehehe

Well, better tell you about the FL-GA game and get to work.

A Great Benefit

My company allows certain positions to work from home. I think this is a great benefit to any company and their employees.

I've been in my position for going on 3 weeks and starting this morning; I begin to work from home. It's not a permanent thing (yet); but I definitely will enjoy the three or four weeks that I get to work from home.

I have my new laptop and all my supplies that I need to work from home. I have to go get my printer sometime today; however, I'm all set to begin working. When going to work, I was trying to work 6-2:30 and most of the time I did. Now that I'm working from home, I know I can stick to that schedule.

Well, I better go, 3 minutes until work starts. Have a great day!!

Why Are People so Mean?

I start my new job Monday and I'll just be honest, I can not wait. I found out that the person I work for now has been saying things about me to the people I will be working with. Bad things. Saying how I'm going to be so unfair with people's quality and how I don't like them.

I've been at my company for 17 years and most of the position I've held except one, I've loved. I've never had a problem with anyone and I'm very professional in my job. I know I'm going to do a great job and be fair to everyone and there will be no playing favorites; I just don't do that at work.

He was out of the office on Friday and I'm glad because it gave me time to cool off and not just fly off the handle and tell him what I think of him.

I, personally, think it comes down to that I don't kiss butt and he always keeps people around him that does. Once they stop; he turns on them and starts talking about them.

Anyway, I just had to vent and get that off my chest. [breathe]

Ok, I feel better!! Thanks for listening.

New Position

I can finally tell you that I got a new position at work. Effective Monday, I will be the new I/S (information systems) Quality Analyst. My job duties will include being over the Quality Program for the Help Desk Center, Phone Operators, and Ebusiness Consultants. In order to have great customer service, there has to be a great quality program in place; thus where I come in.

I'll also be over keeping our internal customers, employees and external customers well informed on new changes within our company with training material on the Web site.

I can't wait to start my new job, I'm so excited for this opportunity that has been given to me.

Wish me luck!!!

Happy Birthday, Esther!

Tonight I had a birthday party to go to at Amigos for my friend, Esther. She turned 40th on August 18th....Happy Birthday, Esther!

I was really looking forward to going out tonight and just relaxing. Work has been really hectic this week and I know it would feel good to unwind and just talk with friends.

I haven't been happy in my department for a couple of months now and have been looking for another job. Tonight at the party, a very important person that could help me move on was there. She gave me some insight on a position she has in mind for me and was scared to offer it because I had been looking for something more.

I told her I was very much interested and she says she will make it happen in the next week or so. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm so excited I just had to tell someone.

Once it happens; I will definitely let you know. Wish me luck!!!

Rating my Performance

I work for a very large well-known company and I've worked there going on 17 years now. Wow, that's a long time....

Anyway, in the 17 years, I've probably had about 6 bosses. Each year, we get Performance Reviews. Since I've never worked at another company that does this, I really have nothing to compare them to, but they seem to be okay and semi-fair.

I know the reviews we receive now are a lot different than the reviews we used to get. They used to be lengthy and not say anything but your basic review lingo; now they are just short and sweet. Mark a few boxes and maybe add a sentence or two.

My yearly review comes up at the end of March; which I will probably receive sometime in April or May. I wonder how many other companies do a standard review and is your review always late?

Age vs Body

Today I definitely confirm that I'm no spring chicken anymore. I'm 38 years old and today I felt all 38 years.

I started my 2nd job today and 8 hours on my feet wore me out and prove to me that I'm not as young as I thought I was. As long as I can remember, I've never felt what my actual age was; I've always felt younger.

Up until today, I felt about like I was in my mid 20s. Never felt like I was in my LATE 30s.

I enjoyed the job though and I'll be back tomorrow. Tomorrow's shift is just 5 hours, so it's all good.

I guess there comes a time in everyone's life where your age eventually catches up to your body.

Old Navy Holiday Work

I have been thinking about getting a second job for the Holidays. I've worked as a Sales Associate during the Holidays before but not at a store that does just tons of tons of business.

Last night I applied online at Old Navy, thinking I may hear from them sometime next week if they were interested. Well, they called me this afternoon around 4:00, I had an interview at 6:00 and I got the JOB!!! It is just a part time job and just thru the second week of January.

I think I'll enjoy it but like I told Shane, I'm not a spring chicken anymore. I hope I can keep up with all the young people.

Junior Achievement

At my work, we got a notice that Junior Achievement needed volunteers for Junior Achievement Day at a local elementary school; so I volunteered.

I teach 5 lessons within 4 hours to 1st graders Weds. morning from 8:00 to 12:00. Karen from JA brought my lesson material. I wondered if I got a little over my head. It's a lot of material to learn overnight; but I'm up for the challenge.

The lessons are regarding Families. I'm confident I can do the lesson and hopefully teach the children something about families and what you do as a family and help each other.

I'm excited; yet nervous about it all. I used to tutor at The Girls' Home here in Chattanooga, but standing in front of a bunch of 6 year olds; I don't know.

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. I better get to studying.

2007 Benefits

Our Open Enrollment period at my job was this month and today was the last day to choose our options. One of the best benefits to me is that we can add our Domestic Partner to our insurance policy. That is, as long as we meet the requirements; which I know we do.

This will be excellent for Shane as he doesn't have any health insurance at the moment and unless he gets a full-time job with benefits, he can stay on my insurance.

Vimo is a great health insurance web tool. It lets you shop for and compare health insurance plans, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), doctors and dentists side-by-side. Even though I get Health Insurance/Vision and Dental Insurance through my job; it's great to be able to see how much healthcare would cost if, for some reason, we needed to buy a private policy.

They have a great FAQ section that answers almost any question you may have.

Having Health Insurance is one less worry and gives you a little bit of piece of mind.

Customer Service Week

This week is Customer Service Week at my job. We the employees are being appreciated by our bosses. Every day we have a different theme and can dress casual all week, meaning we can wear jeans every day. I love wearing jeans, it is so much more comfortable and when I'm comfortable, I work harder. Not that I don't work hard; it just makes the day go by faster to me.

Anyway, today was Karaoke day. We had a Karaoke machine and we could sing. I enjoy doing Karaoke but I wasn't so sure about singing in front of my co-workers.

I decided to do it and I sang, You're so Vain by Carly Simon. I love this song and I really enjoyed singing it today. Yes, I was nervous but the point is, I did it!

The winner gets a paid vacation that includes sand? The winner hasn't been announced yet, but no matter what, I won because normally I'm shy and I overcame that today.

So for anyone in Customer Service, this is your week, so ENJOY!!!

Good Week Gone Wrong

I posted for a position within my department back in June. I had a phone interview while I was on disability.

This week, we finally heard who got the job.

Well, it wasn't me!!! What sucks is that they gave it to someone outside our department. What gripes me about this is it was a Level II job and so this person doesn't even have the knowledge of a Level I position.

I was highly ticked off about this when we were told of their decision. I kept my mouth shut because when I'm that mad, it's best that I don't say anything at all. I felt like it was like a slap in the face and basically told me that they didn't think I was good enough for the position.

I did vent to my mom, Shane and a couple of good friends. That made me feel ALOT better and I'll be over it by the time Monday comes around.

But I have some advise for all the Bosses out there. And not just the ones at the place I work; but every work place.

If you have a position open in your area and employees within your area post for it; have a little bit of decentcy and promote your own employee. Trust me when I say, they will respect you so much more if you give it to someone within your department.

I GOT IT!!!

I got the job that I had been waiting to hear from. HR called me today around 4:00 and offered it to me and of course, I took it.

So, beginning February 27th, I will be moving back downtown in the Tivoli Building to begin my career as an e-Commerce Analyst. I'm hoping this will be my stepping stone for the 2nd half of my career. (I've been at my job for 16 years now)

New Job???

I don't like to talk about work too much on here because I don't know what is "safe".

I will share this with you though. I posted for a job about 2 months ago that is exempt (meaning salaried). We are supposed to be finding out the first of next week sometime.

Cross your fingers and Wish me LUCK!!!

Birthday Invitation

This lady at my work asked me if I could create a birthday invitation for her daughter's "16" birthday. She wanted it to look like a concert ticket. So, being the creative person that I am (haha); I came up with this and she loved it. She took it to Kinkos to have them print it on stock paper to make it look like a real concert ticket. I thought it turned out great!!!

Sorry, it's so small; but it blurs if I make it bigger, but you can get the general picture.
